Domenico Pozzovivo loses a minute

Damn it, Domenico. As if you don’t have enough to contend with all your myriad flaws, you have to go and give everyone a whopping great head start as well.

The Giro is not going well for my man. A crappy team time trial saw him and his AG2R-La Mondiale team-mates lose 48 seconds and then on stage two he got caught behind a pile-up and lost a further 1m09s. When you’re already an outsider and one who’s liable to more lose time on the flat, downhill and in time trials, shedding near enough two minutes inside the first two days really isn’t a great start.

Other than that, the main thing to report is that it was a sprint finish and Elia Viviani of Team Sky won. I’ve nothing else. I didn’t even manage to sign up for the press updates properly, so I can’t give you today’s dish of the day. In fact, the labyrinthine media section of the website is so confusing that I doubt I’ll ever manage to sign up, so consider yesterday’s dish of the day to be dish of the Giro.

It’s such a sad day.

Stage three

Surprisingly hilly for day three, but with a flat finish. Some sprinters could be dropped, depending how things pan out, but probably not. The main thing to look out for is the climb of Barbagelata, which apparently means ‘frozen beard’. I very much doubt there’s be a slope with a better moniker all year.
