What does Paris-Roubaix pavé look like? Take a look at these photos and find out

You’re almost certainly wondering whether I’ve collated a load of photos provided by Strava and published them on some other website, passing it off as some sort of preview for this Sunday’s Hell of the North.

Your luck’s in. Look how cobbly it is.

  1. I rode a section of pave last summer – thoroughly enjoyable at first, although after only a few kilometres I’d lost both my water bottle and all feeling in my backside. I heartily recommend singing whilst cycling the cobbles if you want to hone your Edith Piaf impression; it’s great for adding that all important warble effect.

    1. Great tip.

Was it French pavé? Genuine Paris-Roubaix rough stuff? I tried the Cheshire equivalent, which I daresay wasn’t as rough, but was uphill.

  2. Yes – the French variety (we did three different Paris-Roubaix sectors between Hornaing and Sars et Rosiere). All nice and flat, reasonably short, and the sun was shining – heartily recommend it if you get the chance (but wear your most gel-filled cycle shorts).

    1. I’ll consider it. But at the same time I do quite like my bike.
