A new year, but little has changed. Peter Sagan is still mincing professional cyclists as if they were horsemeat at a Findus beef lasagne factory. He’s won two stages in a row at the Tour of Oman and has looked ludicrously powerful. What odds on a win in one (or several) of the Spring Classics?
The Tour of Oman is a funny sort of race. I’ve tried to clarify the races which actually matter but I steered clear of mentioning any of the stage races. Technically, the Tour of Oman should be a fairly low priority as it isn’t part of the World Tour, but take a look at the start list – pretty much every rider of note is here.
- Alberto Contador
- Bradley Wiggins
- Chris Froome
- Joaquim Rodriguez
- Philippe Gilbert
- Fabian Cancellara
- Vincenzo Nibali
- Cadel Evans
And Domenico Pozzovivo as well!
A win here may not be worth too many points, but it’s clearly worth a lot by some measurement or other. Whatever that measurement is, Sagan is scoring well.
Speaking of scoring, Oman recently created the world’s largest football.
